Snooker was historically viewed as a game for men, and female players were generally considered to be inferior. The recent success of Asian female players has created a new generation of stars in snooker, and women's snooker is on the rise.

2019 was the year of Australia's first women-ranked event. Nutcharut Wuthharuthai won the event. She is believed by be the first female to break 147. She was born in 1999 and is eligible to play on the next season of the World Snooker Tour.

Chitra Krishnamurthy, a Asian lady snooker champion, is another. In 2008, she became the first Indian woman winner of the Australian Open Snooker Championship. In 2011, she won the six-red snooker title. In 2014, her first appearance in the Eden World Ladies Senior Championships took place. She reached the final of Eden World Ladies Senior Championships.

Reanne Evans is the number one female snooker player in the world. She has won ten world titles, and is the reigning world champion. She has also received a wildcard invitation to compete on the men's tour for the 2010/11 season. For her contributions to snooker, she was also awarded an MBE.


Reanne Evans was raised in Dudley (West Midlands). She started playing pool at age 14 and has since gone on to become a professional snooker player. In addition to snooker, she has also won eight ball pool and billiards titles. She is also the current holder of the World Pool Championship title. She has won the European Masters, and she is the most successful woman player in the UK.

Evans won the women's world title in 2006 while she was seven months pregnant. She was also the first woman to make it to the main stages of a ranking tournament. She qualified for the televised stages of the Wuxi Classic in China, and beat Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 5-4 in a qualifying match.

Evans has been the world number 1 for the past 10 years. She has won ten World titles and was awarded an MBE to acknowledge her service to snooker. She has been invited as a wildcard to participate in the professional tour 2010/11 season. She will compete at the UK's final stages for the world ranking. She will be taking on world number 2 Neil Robertson in round 1.
