Pool tables can be made from many parts. The multi-layered tabletop is covered with billiard cloth. People like different colors of cloth for their pool tables. This gives you the opportunity to have a more personalized experience. It also ensures a smooth playing surface.

Slate is the first piece of a pool table. The table's surface is made of slate, a heavy-milled rock. Most pool tables can be made of 1" or 3/4” slate. If you are in the market for a new table, you may want to check for the correct size.

Rails are also an important part the pool table. Rails can be made from natural gum or synthetic materials. They are attached to the slate to provide support and glue. Some rails are made from solid wood. Other materials include plywood and fiberboard.

Cushions are used to protect the rails and keep them from getting damaged. Cushions are made of vulcanized rubber or cloth. These cushions can also be used in conjunction with rails.

The top rail attaches to the top of your table and is shorter. Side rails are shorter and span the length of the pool table. Cross beams are added to increase strength. A transition plate is commonly installed between the slate's rails. A transition plate makes the table stronger.

The table's foot is where the bottom rail is. The rail apron can be described as a horizontal timber which is used for support of the rails. Another support is the bed shelf. Both of these supports are made out of solid pieces of wooden. Post legs can be considered perfect legs.

Corner pockets are holes in the corners of the table. The angle at which the corner pocket entry opens is 142deg (+-1deg). The minimum opening distance for the corner pockets is 4 7/8inches and the maximum is 5 1/8inches.

The horizontal line that runs horizontally across the middle of the table is the head string. The starting point for the head string is generally the second diamond from the side pockets. However, players can mark the start of their head string by drawing a line across the cloth.

The foot spot lies at the bottom of the table. The foot spot is where the ball will land if a shooter takes the ball away from the table. It is also home to the nameplate.

When you are purchasing a new pool table, be sure to check the thickness of the slate. The slate should measure 1". A lot of dealers sell tables with 7/8-inch slate. They are cheaper, but they do not offer the same accuracy as a 1" slate.

Another important component of your pool table is the cloth. Modern billiardcloth is typically made from a blend between synthetic nylon and natural wool. Billiard felt can also be part of the cloth. While some players prefer a different color of cloth, it should be smooth and durable. The cloth should be brushed at least once a month in order to preserve its quality.
