There are many options when it comes to pool cues. There are two types of pool cues. One is the American pool cue. The other is the English pool cue. Each one has its unique characteristics. Learn more about these types to help you make an informed decision.
American pool cues
There are many differences between American pool cues, and English cues. American cues are usually split in their middle, while English cues split at the 3/4-point. English pool and Snooker games are increasingly using 3/4 joints. This cue style allows the player to balance their weight more backwards than with a traditional one. You should experiment with different types of cues to decide which one you like the best.
English pool cues
If you are a beginner or intermediate pool player, you may want to purchase an English pool cue. These cues are usually thinner than others and can have a tip width of up to 8 to 9 millimeters. To add strength and endurance, they are often equipped with a brass ferrule. They can also come in ash wood because of its unique grain.

Snooker cues
You can make Snooker cues out of a variety different types of wood. Some are made from Ash and others from maple. They can have a tip length of between 16 and 18 inches, with a maximum height of seven to eleven mils. 3/4th jointed snooker cues typically weigh sixteen to nineteen pounds. Snooker cues can also be made with a ferrule made of steel, titanium, or fiber.
Jump cues
A jump cue is a kind of pool cue which has a hard tips. It allows the player to transfer more power towards the cueball. There are many jump cues available, and the best ones can help improve your jump shots. Be sure to consider the pros and cons of each jump cue before you purchase one.
Squirt
A squirt is when the cueball is struck off-center. This causes the ball's trajectory to be different. This deflection is a result of physics and can be caused by any number of factors. An example of this is an off-center hit. This will cause the tip to contact an angled surface. The greater the deflection, the higher the hit.
Size of tip
Depending on the game, the size of an English pool cue tip can be varied. The average cue tip measurement is approximately 9.5mm. The tip of an American pool cue is approximately 9.5mm larger than that of an English one, making it much easier to hit the cue ball. These cues can be difficult to aim and therefore are not recommended for Snooker.

Common parts of an English Pool Cue
English pool cues are typically made from Ash wood and have a brass ferrule to give strength and a coarse, leather tip for grip. They are the shortest pool cues with a length of approximately 57 inches and a tip of 8 to 9 mm. Ash is a strong wood with a hidden grain pattern. English cues have a greater flexibility than American counterparts which makes them less susceptible to warping.
English pool cues are expensive
A pool cue in English can range from PS30 to PS300, depending on the quality. A good cue should last for years. An English pool cue can perform well if it is large and has a good tip.
