Peter Lines has enjoyed a long career playing snooker. He has reached the final of both the English Amateur Championship as well as the quarter-finals in the China Open. His success on the professional circuit began in 1991, when he turned professional. In the 1990s, he reached the quarter-finals in both the Strachan Open (Asian Open) and Strachan Open. 1998 was the first year he reached the televised stages at the World Championship.

While his career is mostly unremarkable, Lines' performance in the last few years of his career has been more than respectable. For the first time in his career, he reached the top 64 of the Order of Merit, and he even made it to the quarter-finals of a ranking event. The best part of his season was his run in the German Masters. In which he reached the semifinals and almost won,

He was enjoying a promising start to the 2011/12 season but suddenly felt under pressure. The pressure mounted as the season progressed, and he started to lose matches in his last four ranking events. He was just 57th in the European Tour rankings at the close of the year. He was blessed with a second year of tour and qualified for the World Championship qualifiers.

He went on to play in two other major tournaments, defeating Ian McCulloch and Joe Perry. He was also qualified for the Players Tour Championships (PTC), but his performance was not sufficient to keep him in main tour.

In 2010, he won the UK Championship, but he was again relegated to the PTC events after the 2015/16 season. He has been playing in amateur tournaments ever since.

Lines' behavior in a match with China Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), has been ruled unprofessional. The World Snooker Tour received Lines' complaint. They have launched an investigation. There was a formal complaint filed by Xiao Guodong and the matter is expected to be referred directly to the World Snooker Tribunal.

The case was heard December 16th, and Lines was sentenced by the WPBSA to a $500 fine. The fine had an interesting side: Lines was found guilty for violating two rules regarding player conduct.

After a foul or miss, the first rule was his replacement of white ball. In this situation, professional players are not uncommon to temporarily hang up their cues. Brendan Moore was Lines' opponent. They argued over this matter. Both claimed Lines made an error. Lines, however, maintained that he was right.

The World Snooker Tour on the other side claimed that Lines used "swear language and intimidation" during his match. Lines threatened to fight outside of the arena.
