There are many types of pool cues available. There are two types of pool cues. One is the American pool cue. The other is the English pool cue. These types all have their own unique characteristics. To make the best choice, learn about each type.

American pool cues

There are many differences between American and English pool cues. American cues tend to be split in the center, while English cues will split at 3/4. English pool and snooker are increasingly using the 3/4 joint. This cue style allows the player to balance their weight more backwards than with a traditional one. To discover which cue you love best, try different types.

English pool cues

An English pool cue may be the best choice for you if you are an intermediate or beginner pool player. These cues are usually thinner than others and can have a tip width of up to 8 to 9 millimeters. They often have a brass ferrule to add strength and durability. They are also made from ash wood, which has a unique grain.

Snooker cues

You can make snooker cues from many different woods. Some are made with Ash while some are made with maple. They can have a tip that's seven to eleven millimeters, while the overall length is between sixteen and eighteen inches. Most snooker cues are 3/4th jointed and weigh sixteen to nineteen ounces. You can also have snooker cups made from steel, stainless, or titanium ferrules.

Jump cues

Jump cues are a pool cue that has a hard tip. This helps to transfer more power to your cue ball. Jump cues are available in many styles and types. The best ones will enhance your jump shots. Be sure to consider the pros and cons of each jump cue before you purchase one.

Squirt

A squirt is when the cueball is struck off-center. This causes the ball's trajectory to be different. The deflection is caused by physics. It can also be caused from a number of factors. For example, an off center hit can cause the tip on the cue ball's to come in contact with an angled surface. So the bigger the deflection, it is the more off-center.

Tip size

The size of the tip on an English pool cue can be adjusted depending on the type of game being played. The average cue tip size is about 9.5mm. An American cue has a much larger tip than an English pool cue, which makes striking the cue ball very easy. These cues can be difficult to aim and therefore are not recommended for Snooker.

Common parts of an English Pool Cue

English pool cues usually are made of Ashwood, and feature a brass ferrule for stability and a coarse-leather tip for grip. They are the shortest pool cues with a length of approximately 57 inches and a tip of 8 to 9 mm. Ash is a sturdy wood with a visible grain pattern. English cues tend to be more flexible than American counterparts. This means that they are less likely warp.

English pool cues cost approximately $80

Depending on the quality, an English pool cue can cost anywhere from PS30 to PS300. A cue of good quality should last many years. An English pool cue's performance is affected by many factors, including the tip and size.
